My Story

Perhaps like you, I have spent my life searching for "my purpose" and exploring many different avenues in an effort to find work that felt fulfilling and meaningful. Along the way I read inspiring books, took personality tests and tried several different avenues seeking to find the path that felt like I was On My Way and like I was contributing something important with my life.

Getting my masters degree and becoming a Librarian felt important and was fulfilling in many ways. I certainly felt inspired by contributing to society, and books and stories have always been a powerful and important part of my life. It wasn't my plan to start as a Children's LIbrarian but it was the opportunity I was given and I got to inspire children from birth to teens with stories and learning. I got to perform storytime for small children three times a week and took continuing education on the powerful impact of storytelling for learning. I soon developed my own performance that combined music, language and the rhythm of stories to help young people and their parents understand emotion the big world of feelings. I also hosted a tween book club and looked for stories that took characters through facing fears and having courage and learning about themselves. We talked about what we would do faced with their challenges and which qualities of the characters we could relate with. All of these passionate connections with children of all ages through the power of storytelling and imagination were powerful lessons I was incorporating into my own life. Without yet fully understanding the power of the subconscious mind, I was learning how to use the symbols of storytelling to inspire others and learn strength on a deep, personal level.

I remember reading a book called 438 Days: An Extraordinary True Story of Survival at Sea by Jonathan Franklin about a man who was stranded at sea in a small fishing boat for 14 months. I was completely enthralled by this story of a man who used the power of his mind to face stark odds and come back to tell his tale of survival. It left such a deep impression on me about the power of the mind. I know in my heart it was a gift from Spirit because not even a month after I read that book, I experienced a back injury while teaching a babysitting course that left me stuck in bed with incredible pain for what ended up to be years. During that long journey of recovery I discovered new depths of despair, and also the incredible power of the mind as I decided not to give up during multiple relapses. Pain can redefine your relationship with your body and reality. It was the powerful magic of finding a counselor who listened compassionately and guided me to my own truth that helped me through those painful years of creating a new relationship with my body. Mental health professionals are powerful allies and finding the right connection can take several tries. If you find yourself in the depths of despair and haven't found the right counselor for you, please don't give up on the idea of mental health support. It was my social work counselor who introduced me to hypnosis, and that introduction led me to finding the path that would change my life and set me free.

I read books about self-hypnosis and used those practices to take me through the daily work of reteaching my body how to walk, to sit and stand, to use a vacuum cleaner and wash dishes without injuring myself. I read stories that inspired me and imagined those characteristics within me as I built strength and endurance. I opened my mind again and again to new ways of thinking, to release the fear and worry that I would never dance again, never feel free to move without extreme caution, or to be constantly in pain. And I worried, a lot. I cried and gave up a hundred times, but the most important part was that after those tears I chose to get back up and keep trying a hundred and one times. I will forever be grateful to the many angels I met along my path of healing who helped me through some of the worst years of my life. I also am here to tell you that it was the effort I put in every day, in my mind, with the principles of hypnosis that did the work of crawling out of that pit and back into the light where I could thrive again.

That powerful journey, which is not complete but is certainly a major transformation, is what brought me to the Nationally Accredited College of Hypnotherapy at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute where I could use my journey to help others. Studying and experiencing hypnotherapy with the Director and Senior Staff of HMI continues to propel my physical and emotional health, as well as intense spiritual breakthroughs that tell me I am exactly where I am meant to be - On My Path. Everything I have experienced along the way, the pain and disappointment of what I once thought of as "failures" were exactly what I needed to experience so I could transform like a butterfly and share my beautiful journey with others so they can transform themselves. During my clinical hypnotherapy internship at HMI, I continue to apply the empowering tools I have learned to help others on their own journey of transformation. Nothing fills my heart more than to witness a soul releasing its pain, discovering its power and finding its purpose.  That’s what happened for me and I welcome the opportunity to witness it happening for you.
